Uncommon Common Expressions:


Eric:
The Field where the fighting takes place. DO NOT ENTER.
Autocrat:
The Person usually suffering from sleep deprivation who is ultimately in charge of an event.
Bard:
An Entertainer, Singer, Musician, etc.
Bardic
Short for Bardic Circle
Bardic Circle:
An after hours party - People gather around a campfire to enjoy the evenings free entertainment. Usually Belly Dancers, Story Tellers, Bards, etc. A sort of campfire atmosphere.
Barony:
Smaller than a Kingdom - larger than a Shire.
Biffy:
The Porta-Potties on the edge of the field.
Cloven Fruit:
The medieval practice of giving a fruit with cloves pressed into it and given to someone you wish to kiss or to know better. It need not be accepted.
Court:
The area in front of the throne where the King or Queen holds ceremonies. Many tournament competitions are held there.
Day Tripping:
Dropping in for the day.
Dragon:
Car - Truck - Bus - Van - etc.
Dry Site:
NO Alcohol allowed.
Discretely Wet Site:
Alcohol in Period containers only. Pop and juices also. Aluminum cans are so tacky.
Fighters:
Certified fighters - Participants in the wars and tournaments - They must wear approved Armor.
Guild:
A formalized group of craftspeople - with a common craft.
Herald:
The person(s) at events who announce what is happening and the eyes and ears of the King.
Heraldry:
A descriptive language for the regalia of the S.C.A.
Household:
An informal group of people who enjoy each others company.They may formalize it by forming a household.Households are not officially S.C.A.
Jousting:
People Jest but generally do not Joust. Jousting is allowed in some areas of the known world.
Kilt Check:
When a bolder Lady wishes to see if a kilt wearer is authentic. It is not a common practice.
Knight:
Some one who has fought for a while and has proven themselves to be an honorable, chivalrous individual and has passed certain tests.
Known World:
All of the areas of the Mundane World with S.C.A. chapters.
Kingdom:
The Known World is divided into Kingdoms - then Baronies - then Shires.
Merchantocrat:
The person in charge of merchant facilities.
Modern:
A member of the general public not wearing period garb.
Mundane:
Referring to the outside world of every day life.
Naked:
Wearing Modern Clothing.
Page:
A young man or woman in service to someone of rumored importance.
Period:
Anything that existed or could have in the Middle ages.
Period Swimming:
Skinny Dipping - Generally done at night by the bolder few.
Playing:
Participating in S.C.A. Activities.
Regalia:
The Banners, Coats of Arms and anything used for the identification of important people and/or merchants
Regimental:
Scottish Regiments did not wear any under wear under their kilts.
Wet Site:
Legal restrictions on Alcohol only.
